Investigation of long term storage effects on aerospace nickel-cadmium cell performance

    Get PDF
A study on evaluation of the long term storage effects on aerospace nickel-cadmium cells currently being performed at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) is described. A number of cells of 6 Ah and 12 Ah capacities which were stored in shorted condition for 8 to 9 years at the GSFC were selected for this study. These cells will undergo electrical acceptance testing the the GSFC, and life cycling at the NASA Battery Test Facility at the Naval Weapons Facility at the Naval Weapons Support Center (NWSC) in Crane, Indiana; in addition, some cells from the study will undergo destructive analyses

The effect of post-election asymmetry information possibility on pre-election policy platform choices

In this paper, we examine the effect of a possibility of post-election information asymmetry between voters and candidates on pre-election policy platform choices by candidates. We show that this possibility may lead candidates to over commit during election campaign, which may contribute to an ex post moral hazard problem.Electoral competition, Ex-post information asymmetry, Moral hazard, Policy platform choice

Direct Fidelity Estimation from Few Pauli Measurements

We describe a simple method for certifying that an experimental device prepares a desired quantum state ρ. Our method is applicable to any pure state ρ, and it provides an estimate of the fidelity between ρ and the actual (arbitrary) state in the lab, up to a constant additive error. The method requires measuring only a constant number of Pauli expectation values, selected at random according to an importance-weighting rule. Our method is faster than full tomography by a factor of d, the dimension of the state space, and extends easily and naturally to quantum channels

Broad-line and Multi-wave Band Emission from Blazars

We study the correlations of the flux of the broad-line emission (FBLRF_{BLR}) with the X-ray emission flux, optical emission flux at 5500 \AA and radio emission flux at 5 GHz, respectively, for a large sample of 50 Blazars (39 flat-spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) and 11 BL Lac objects). Our main results are as follows. There are very strong correlations between FBLRF_{BLR} and FXF_{X} and between LBLRL_{BLR} and LXL_{X} in both states for 39 FSRQs and the slopes of the linear regression equations are almost equal to 1. There are weak correlations between FBLRF_{BLR} and FXF_{X} and between LBLRL_{BLR} and LXL_{X} for 11 BL Lac objects in both states, and the slopes of the linear regression equations are close to 1. There are significant correlations between FBLRF_{BLR} and FXF_{X} and between LBLRL_{BLR} and LXL_{X} for 50 blazars in both states, the slopes of both the linear regression equations are also close to 1. These results support a close link between relativistic jets and accretion on to the central Kerr black hole. On the other hand, we find that BL Lac objects have low accretion efficiency η\eta, whereas FSRQs have high accretion efficiency η\eta. The unified model of FSRQs and BL Lac objects is also discussed.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figure

Novel quantum phases of dipolar Bose gases in optical lattices

We investigate the quantum phases of polarized dipolar Bosons loaded into a two-dimensional square and three-dimensional cubic optical lattices. We show that the long-range and anisotropic nature of the dipole-dipole interaction induces a rich variety of quantum phases, including the supersolid and striped supersolid phases in 2D lattices, and the layered supersolid phase in 3D lattices.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Synthesis of Quinazoline and Quinazolinone Derivatives via Ligand-Promoted Ruthenium-Catalyzed Dehydrogenative and Deaminative Coupling Reaction of 2-Aminophenyl Ketones and 2-Aminobenzamides with Amines

The in situ formed ruthenium catalytic system ([Ru]/L) was found to be highly selective for the dehydrogenative coupling reaction of 2-aminophenyl ketones with amines to form quinazoline products. The deaminative coupling reaction of 2-aminobenzamides with amines led to the efficient formation of quinazolinone products. The catalytic coupling method provides an efficient synthesis of quinazoline and quinazolinone derivatives without using any reactive reagents or forming any toxic byproducts
